Great progress on new extra care apartmentsThursday, 11 January 2018
Llys Raddington Extra Care Housing Officer Kyle Trotter with Senior Extra Care Manager Carol Thomas
A Senior Extra Care Manager and Officer have been appointed for the prestigious Llys Raddington housing in Flint Town Centre.
The £10m scheme is specifically designed for local people aged 60 or over who wish to live independently in a home of their own with the peace of mind of 24-hour access to care support.
A partnership between Flintshire County Council and Tŷ Glas Housing Society, part of the Pennaf Housing Group, the development is on schedule to open in the early summer.
“It’s a privilege to be involved with Llys Raddington, which is one of three similar schemes the Pennaf Housing Group is currently developing in North Wales,” said Fluent Welsh speaker Carol Thomas, Senior Extra Care Manager.
“I joined the Pennaf Housing Group in 2008 and I have seen first-hand how the lives of older people and their families have been transformed by the independent living options that extra care housing provides.”
Kyle Trotter, who is local to Flintshire, has been appointed as the Extra Care Officer at Llys Raddington and has already met with some of those hoping to rent the new apartments.
“Making home visits to some of those who may be potential tenants when the scheme opens brings home exactly how vital these new self-contained apartments are, and the difference they can make in people’s lives,’’ said Kyle who has worked in supported housing for the last 12 years.
“The whole ethos of extra care is about enabling people to live as independently as possible for as long as possible. There’s flexible support available 24 hours a day on site to help people with a range of assessed care and support needs. There are a wide range of communal facilities on site, including a restaurant, while people can still have the privacy and independence of living in their own self-contained apartment.”
Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Cllr Christine Jones, said:
“These are exciting times for Flint. We have already seen what a great asset extra care housing is for older people across Flintshire and the new Llys Raddington scheme is ideally located right in the heart of the town. Flintshire has also appointed our Senior Support Worker, Debbie Davies, and also our Care and Support Manager for the scheme, Chris Morris, who is currently the Care and Support Manager in Llys Jasmine in Mold and will bring a wealth of experience in extra care to Llys Raddington.”
“The scheme is progressing well, ready to open in the early summer providing another excellent housing option for older people in the county.”
